One of the hallmarks of a youthful face is that most of its volume is in the middle. A chubby cheeked look
is a very young look. As we age, the tissue of the cheek starts to descend. This causes several things to happen.
As the upper portion of the face starts to lose its volume it takes on an older, somewhat tired appearance.
The nasolabial folds, the lines that go from the corner of the nose towards the side of the mouth, become deeper
and heavier. Since the upper cheek borders the lower eyelid, as the cheek falls it causes the bottom portion of
the lower eyelid to lose some volume as well. A youthful lower eyelid has a lot of volume. Cheek descent therefore
causes the lower eyelids to look old and tired as well. It is not uncommon for this to be the issue that bothers the
patient the most.
A cheek lift is performed using hidden incisions around the ear that lifts the cheek tissue back to its youthful position.
The lower eyelid looks youthful and full, the nasolabial fold is softened, and that chubby cheeked look returns.
