Facial Liposuction in Denver with Smartlipo™
In order to understand Smartlipo™ you have to first have an understanding of traditional liposuction. To remove unwanted fat, a hollow metal tube about the diameter of a pen is inserted through an incision in the skin. The tube is very aggressively moved back and forth underneath the skin, breaking up the fat, which is then removed by attaching the tube to high powered suction. Some of the downsides to traditional liposuction in Denver include:

In the face and neck especially, where we are removing small volumes of fat, it was difficult to get a near perfect result with traditional liposuction. The removal of fat had to be done very smoothly and evenly, and dealing with the extra skin after fat removal was often a problem. In very young people the procedure worked fairly well. The overlying skin, because it was young skin, would usually tighten enough after the procedure to give a good result. Anyone over the age of 30 however, would often need something else done at the time of the liposuction to tighten the overlying skin. The corresponding Suture Lift, Thread Lift or even neck lift would add to the recovery time. Because of this, we have been looking for a better way to do liposuction. The ideal procedure
- Removes fat with little bruising and swelling
- Leaves a smooth even contour to the remaining fat
- Causes the overlying skin to tighten
Increased Comfort, Improved Results
Smartlipo does all of these things. In reality, while there is lipo, there is no suction. Instead, Smartlipo is a laser that does 3 things. It melts fat, coagulates blood vessels, and tightens the skin. The laser is transmitted through a tiny fiber that is placed underneath the skin through a hole made by a very small needle. No incisions are needed. Therefore there are no sutures or scars. Since the laser melts fat, it is performed delicately, not aggressively. This, along with its ability to coagulate blood vessels, causes very little postoperative bruising and swelling and allows it to be done using a local anesthetic in the office. Since the fiber is tiny, small amounts of fat are melted at a time providing a very smooth, even result. Most importantly, the heat from the laser against the undersurface of the skin causes the overlying skin to tighten, giving a smooth, even tone to the post-procedure skin.
Smartlipo has revolutionized our ability to remove small volumes of fat from people older than 30. It has also decreased the recovery time and need for anesthesia in patients of all ages. It is now often combined with a variety of other procedures such as face lift in Denver to give significant results using a minimally invasive procedure. While it was developed as a way to remove extra fat from the neck, it is very effective anywhere in the body where there are small amounts of extra fat.
