SmartLipo: Laser-assisted Liposuction Literally Melts Away Fat
A recent innovation to traditional liposuction techniques is the SmartLipo - a laser-assisted liposuction procedure pioneered in Europe. Compared to traditional liposuction procedures, this is much less invasive, reducing the potential for scarring and bruising. And it has a much shorter recovery period. Liposuction techniques use a hollow tool called a cannula, which is inserted underneath the skin and moved back and forth to break apart fat tissue, which is then suctioned away. This made it difficult for surgeons to achieve precise results, since traditional liposuction techniques required big movements, to properly break up fat tissue.
For this new procedure on the other hand, a small incision is made through which a cannula with a small laser is used to delicately melt the fat, coagulate the blood vessels, and tighten the skin. The tool's small size allows the surgeon to gently and precisely manipulate it around the area to be treated, which leaves very minimal bruising, and almost no visible scarring.
